Long drinks and ready-to-serve (RTS) drinks are often sweet and cloudy, and their alcohol content ranges from 4% to 11%.
The base flavour is created by a strong alcoholic beverage, but some of these drinks are made using an alcohol base achieved by fermenting an extract, juice or wine. The main flavour is grapefruit, but since the history of these beverages is based on the drinks culture, the spectrum of flavours is very wide.
The drinks come in a variety of colours that are meant to represent the nature of the drink. The sweetness comes from either sugar or sweeteners.
Tips for useLong drinks and RTS drinks have been pre-mixed with carbonated soft drinks or juice.
Long drinks and RTS drinks are ideal for socialising and best served well-chilled.
How to serveLong drinks and RTS drinks are best served well-chilled, at 8–10°C, and on the rocks. Chilling a bottle from room temperature to the perfect serving temperature takes about two hours in a fridge.
