Pale, fresh and mild cheeses are best enjoyed with similarly fresh and mild beverages. For example, a crisp and acidic white wine, a light red wine, or a flavoursome beer.

Flavoursome lamb and mutton can be prepared in many ways. It’s worth choosing a full-bodied beverage to accompany strongly flavoured meats. Lamb is slightly milder in taste than mutton, but the same beverages will work well with both.

Casseroles are usually rich in flavour yet quite smooth due to their long cooking times. A similarly rich and smooth beverage will therefore work well with them. If your food is very fatty, you can cut it with a well-balanced beverage.

Game usually has quite a strong taste, which is why game wines are primarily full-bodied reds. A richly flavoured beer is also an ideal partner to strongly flavoured game dishes.
